Blog hoppin' - "Forbidden Love" writing challenge, with prizes!

Update 22 June - And the winners are...

1st - Rakel' Sampson, entry #27 - "Duty"
2nd - Elisabeth Koch, entry #9 - "Don't Let The Morning Come"
3rd - Rebecca Fyfe, entry #8 - "Siren's Tears"

I thought ALL of the entries were top shelf!  I was amazed by the ingenuity shown across all of the entries, and just how many different interpretations of the theme came out.  Thanks to everyone who entered.

I was recently asked by the talented, the bubbly, the gorgeous Lillie McFerrin to join her for a good ol' fashioned blog hop, involving a writing prompt challenge and the awarding of some fabbo prizes.  My first response was "YESSS!".  My second response was "how does it work?".  I know, what a noob.

So here we are, I'm participating in my first ever blog hop.  Let me tell you a little bit about my amazing co-hosts:

Lillie McFerrin - I first met Lillie through the Write on Wednesdays writing prompt group, where we enjoyed flexing our creative writing muscles every week.  We both participated in NaNoWriMo 2011, with Lillie showing incredible commitment and energy and becoming a Winner, and me letting outside pressures get in the way and not even coming close.  She's a dedicated and passionate writer, and the creator of the Five Sentence Fiction weekly writing prompt meme.

Ruth Long - Ruth writes for pleasure, and Bullish Ink is her outlet to maintain her writing focus, something that a lot of writers seem to find particularly hard (you can't rush art, people)! I was blown away by her entry for a faerytale flash fiction challenge, and recently learnt that Ruth used to write music, and often has a number of books on the go at once (just like me!).

The writing challenge-
  • Submit an original flash fiction piece of 300 words max., to the theme "Romeo and Juliet", using the linky tool below.  You can link up on any of the three blogs involved.
  • Submissions open Friday 1 June, 11.59pm and are open until Friday 15 June, 11.59pm.  No restrictions, anyone can enter!
  • Lillie, Ruth and I will judge the winner and runners-up, and announce them on our blogs on Friday 22 June.

Prizes are:

1st prize - 50 page critique of your written work of your choosing by Lillie McFerrin
2nd prize - 20 page critique of your written work of your choosing by Ruth Long
3rd prize - Book, "Love letters of great men", a new copy delivered to your door from me :)
BONUS FOR ALL ENTRIES - Lillie is offering a 5 page or query letter critique for each entrant joining this blog hop! Now tell me, why wouldn't you enter?

I'm so looking forward to reading everyone's entries!  Enjoy the challenge, and make sure to check out the other submitted pieces too.

  1. It sounds interesting! I don't usually do fiction, but I know lots of people who do, I'll try spreading the word for you.

  3. This is such a great idea! Between thesis writing and journal article writing I don't have much time for creative writing anymore. I have so much respect for people who do (have the time and actually write). I did a post last week about writing processes and got so many great comments, you may (or may not) be interested :)

  4. Thanks Vanisha for directing me to your post, I had a read, very interesting to hear about your writing process!
I must admit, "time" is my biggest enemy these days when it comes to writing too. I was ok with it for a while but this year have really let it slip unfortunately.
